Happy Birthday!!!

This weekend is a busy one.  We have four days/nights of motorcycle racing at the fairgrounds and it causes us to be pretty busy.  I'm hoping that mom and dad got the trailers moved before they mud hit as I was in Iowa at the Farm Progress Show.  My favorite show by the way.  Anyway, we've got the races all the way through Monday since the race in May was cancelled they are running it then.  So...it should be a good weekend.  Then we're off to Milwaukee.  Mom is to report at 5:30a.m. for surgery Surgery is scheduled for 7:30a.m.  So far her oldest brother and her parents as well as dad and me will be on hand for her surgical procedure.

Big thanks to our friends the Schneiders.  Family through and through and they are letting Dad and I stay with them.  We won't be there much but it'll be nice to have that escape versus a cold hotel room.

Oh and by the way...Happy Birthday Mom!!  Her birthday is Monday!!

T minus 13 days

Surgery will be here in a just less than two weeks.  Wow.  I can't believe it already.  I think we are ready.  Maybe?  Maybe not, but mom is having her physical done this week and Drexel goes to school and then the Farm Progress Show, home from that and off to the motorcycle races then Milwaukee.  Yikes.  We're some busy people but it's probably better that way.

Thanks to all of you who stopped by the concession stand and said hello she really enjoyed it and to those of you who just learned what's going on, welcome.  We're happy to have you along for the ride!

love always,

How to leave a comment

Hey all.  There's been some talk that you'd like to leave a comment but you're not sure how.  So....I'm going to help ease some of that confusion I hope.

At the end of the page here you will see a place that says "comments".   I have set this up so that you can add a comment and remain anonymous.   In the box, leave your comment and your name and I'll be sure to read them to her until she wants to read alone.  So if you have a google or blogspot account you can log in.  If not...no worries just click on the anonymous button and presto!  You have left a comment for Lois.

Questions let me know...but leave a comment.  Give it a try!!

Oh yeah...I'm trying to figure out how to make sure you get an email when I post, but there is also an rss feed so subscribe to that!

love to all!~!

Surgery

Ok for those of you who are new to this page, I'm trying to get things going on here. Just to update everyone on what is going on here's the lowdown and this site will be the one updated and I'll allow anyone to comment so please comment and offer your well wishes...she does read them and enjoys them when I tell her there is somehting new to report.

Surgery is September 2, 2008 in Milwaukee at Froedtert Hospital. She will allegedly be there for 5 - 7 days a couple of those days will be in ICU. Once we get her into surgery I'll update as the doctors update us. So...know that no news is good news.

Feel free to email me at farmerspice@yahoo.com as it comes directly to my phone. I assume that like most other hospitals this one will too have free wifi so that I can get to you as soon as possible.

In advance thanks so much for your support and help at this time. She's fine now...she won't be fine in a month. I think the process to remove this thing is way worse than what it really is. The doctors do have a plan and they are ready to tackle that.

Here's what we know to this point:
  • It is a tumor
  • They believe she has had it for some time
  • They also believe it is NOT cancer
  • It is in a difficult spot
  • She is having difficulty seeing
  • She is losing her color vision
  • She has a brain - my uncles all owe me money for thinking she was brainless all this time
  • Dr. Harris (eye surgeon) is highly regarded in his field like 1 or 2 in the nation
  • She is comfortable with the doctors
  • Dr. Sinson will put titanium back where the bone has been eroded by the tumor
  • Is is called a cavernous hemangioma and is close to the brain
  • A neurosurgeon and an eye surgeon will perform the surgery together
  • The surgery will go in through her scalp not through her eye
  • Recovery will take some time

Please ask questions. It's great to know that we have some of the greatest friends in the world. We are definitely blessed.

Please forward this to those that know my mom and need an update!!

Continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. It is a difficult road. It is not easy, but we're Guffeys and Howards we'll make it just fine.
